Liquid Penetrant The test is considered the best test methods for the detection of surface discontinuities material exempt of porosity such as ferrous and non ferrous metals, aluminum, alloys, ceramics, glass, some plastics or organic materials, synthetic. Penetrant are also used for detecting leaks in pipes, tanks, solder and components.

The penetrant is applied by brush, spray or aerosol can with or dipping the surface to be tested, which then acts by a penetration time.
